Soft Tissue Therapy
also known as Sports Massage Therapy.Deep, holistic, hands-on therapy which can assess, identify and treat problems, to maintain you in top condition and to monitor your training progress.
At EliteBikeCoach we explain how and where you can benefit from Soft Tissue Therapy, either for a specific problem or injury, or general maintenance and relaxation.
Soft Tissue Therapy helps to keep you fit so you can keep cycling.
Soft Tissue Therapy (STT) developed in 60s and 70s from physiotherapy. While physios tend to concern themselves with injury rehab, a Soft Tissue Therapist will work with injuries and maintenance in a holistic, hands-on way. STTs have become an integral part of athletics and sports, as they have the skills and training to assess, analyse and treat the causes of your pain and help maintain your body in top condition.
Some coaches offer Soft Tissue Therapy as an integral part of their practice. This is because they can directly feel the effects of the training and understand what your body is doing. They can spot things that are working and anything that isn’t, in a way that you rarely get from just talking to or watching you.
At EliteBikeCoach I explain how and where you can benefit from Soft Tissue Therapy, either for a specific problem or injury, or general maintenance and relaxation. I also provides links to professional registers for you to find an STT in your area.
- Assess, identify and treat specific problems.
- Treats both acute and chronic problems.
- Injury/problem REhabilitation plans should be included as part of the session.
£50+ (guide price for one 1-hour session plus shorter follow-ups)
Are you in pain? If you have a specific problem or injury then you are looking for a therapist who can use a comprehensive suite of Soft Tissue Therapy techniques, to identify and treat chronic (reoccurring) or acute (short lasting but often more severe) pain. If you have a problem that is best dealt with by another specialist then you should be referred on.
In addition to your treatment, a good therapist should give you a tailor-made rehabilitation plan that will help you recover and avoid pain in the future. In most cases you will typically need between one and three sessions.
Cost regimens will depend on the therapist but expect to pay £25 for a half-hour session and £50 for a one-hour session. You might be able to buy a number of sessions upfront at a reduced price.

Like your bike, your body needs quality maintenance to avoid minor issues becoming acute problems or chronic injuries. A Soft Tissue Therapist (STT) typically uses a comprehensive suite of deep tissue massage techniques to keep your body in top form, removing toxins from the muscles and clearing trapped tension.
Soft Tissue Therapy and fascial manipulation can also identify tight muscles and imbalances within the body, which may be due to the way you are cycling or the setup of your bike (see our BikeFit page).
Many athletes find that regular maintenance helps their bodies recover from training sessions, events and races.
Cost regimens will depend on the therapist but expect to pay £25 for a half-hour session and £50 for a one hour session. You might be able to buy a number of sessions upfront at a reduced price.

“Back is better, graduated to sleeping in the futon rather than the floor and woke up fairly pain free this morning but if you have any availability I would take it just to help things on their way.”

The following are directories of STTs that practice techniques that I believe get great results from little input.
